The Rallye des Alpes will pass through the classic roads of Europe’s most famous mountain range during the week of July 3rd/8th. Its history goes back over a hundred years to the very first stirrings of motor sport when men and their machines set out to challenge the Alps in Austria. Its most recent lineage springs from that most famous of post-war motor rallies, the Coupe des Alpes, organised by the Automobile Club de Marseille-Provence during the 1950s and 1960s. Indeed, the Rallye des Alpes still awards the legendary Alpine Cups, the Coupes of its title, though these days it is for strict adherence to the requirements of a regularity rally rather than, as before, for sheer performance.
